The day we viewed the house, I loved the potential I saw in the backyard!
The porch was nice, just fenced in
I pictured BBQ's back here
More fencing of the yard into many sections
Nice shed, but no natural flow to the yard
I pictured a hammock right there....
So we began to take things out
Steve got the dividers and fencing out and some overcrowded willows |
Gathering all the mutilated tree parts, we left a nice lilac though!
All the crap was piled up in the yard, including rocks and stepping stones that we still have in piles
The railroad ties were to the right and that fence divider was taken out as well
Glad Lee lent us his truck and trailer so we could load all that crap up!
The empty side yard will be a storage area soon....
Me man handling some tree parts
A few weeks ago we prepared for Project Stonehendge, we had to remove the sprinkler system...it was crappy though
Some heads were buried 1 foot deep...hmm, glad will put in a better system next year
Loki was such a help with the yard work
Before this pic there was tons of weeding of plants that weren't weeds just ugly green things with tiny flowers, not interesting at all!
Then some friends came to help us move the shed to the corner
We used a system of hoisting, wooden "tracks" and a lever to move the thing
Here's the lever
One of the big guys needed to work the lever since Steve wasn't heavy enough! LOL
It's done! Look Pikes Peak!!
We bought two tons of dirt and tried to make the area around the apple trees slope more gently to the rest of the yard
the rocks outline where grass will be |
There is where a path will lead to the side yard where the fire pit will be in a xeriscape garden
Right now the side yard is a storage place for all the crab we've found in the yard!
The rocks are being removed from the very front by the street |
The rocks here outline where the rock fence will be and we'll plant an herb garden
Steve laying some plastic so we can create the short path leading out the back gate

Baby grass growing at the base of my decorative mushroom
Sod cut from Michael and Justin's place, they were putting in a patio and were so nice to give us the grass!
Just waiting for the two green areas to converge
We put up a temporary fence so the dogs can stay off the seedlings

Landscape Idea: the path leading to the backyard
Landscape Idea: path leading to the side yard, we actually will use pavers instead of gravel
Landscape Idea: side yard vision, gravel, fire pit and plants that require low water since this is the south facing side
Landscape idea: Shade loving hostas, astilbes, ferns and other flowers will be by the fence behind the apple trees
Oh and I'll squeeze in a bird bath to the left for the finches that have nested for the second time under our patio awning! |
